Force Protection for Firebases
Many members of the military are deployed in remote locations throughout the world and are expected to be mostly self-sufficient in austere and hostile environments. They often are lacking appropriate equipment to provide sufficient situational awareness.
At large FOBs, the warfighter has a comprehensive force protection system that includes Ground Surveillance Radar, EO/IR cameras, Unattended Ground Sensors (UGS) and Situational Awareness software packages. However, these complex Force Protection systems cannot be used by the small units in remote locations because of the size of the components, their power consumption as well as the support and logistical requirements.
